Is this real BKPs....?
« on: July 17, 2012, 11:12:07 PM »
Hey! I just bought a new guitar from ebay, in the description there was a saying that the guitar it self would have a BKP 'holy diver' bridge and a 'miracle man' neck.

However, I just removed the pickups and on the backside there isnt any print or such saying that its anywhere near BKPs, can you say if this is the real deal?

Thanks in advance.

Sadly they are not Sir ...  :(

As you said, the real thing is engraved, and the build quality / materials   used in B.K.P. are in another Universe from those.  I have no photos of my own from the same angle, but the pictures on the B.K.P. ( Shop) section, will show you what I mean.  For example, when in the B.K.P shop section of the site, click on the sidebar for 'Humbuckers' and a nice baseplate picture pops up.

Sorry I had to  break the bad news, I hope you can get refunded.

Mine were not engraved at all, and I ordered them directly from them.

All of the BKP baseplates on humbuckers I've owned have had the Bare Knuckle Pickups script etched on the bottom.

Those pickups in the photo ain't BKP baseplates, they're too rounded on the corners for starters.

Its feasible that they could've been rewound by BKP, but it'd doubt it.

I just checked the 'Warpig' I bought from them last week, and whilst the ( older style ) deep engraving is now an etched / stamped ( but otherwise identical ) Logo that sits right  into the baseplate metal itself - the fact still remains that the overall build quality / cable / cable exits / baseplate / screw mounts / or anything  could still not be compared to the pickups bought by Olivier.

Yeah I was gonna say that, but I seemed to get sidetracked with something (happens alot) and forgot to add that. They definitely don't look like they have the quality of a pickup BK would send out for sale.

Indeed, and ( for the clarification of the O.P. ) - even if they were claimed to have been re-wound by B.K.P.  the connecting cables would have been upgraded to B.K.P. standard.   Very naughty of the vendor,  as they did claim they where already 'The real thing'.

Also , being of an ethical nature, I suspect the rewinds department would reject the job - like a body would reject a rubber kidney.

Thanks for the quick answers, even if its getting me kind of depressed.
Still, it doesnt look like the stock pickups on the Ibanez RG7621 that I bought.

So now i'm stuck with some pickups I dont even know the brand or model of....

Sorry about your disapointment,  but  I presume the guitar itself is nice - and at least you know what brand you could upgrade them with at a later date.   We don't work for B.K.P. -  but ( as you may gather ) this level of commitment and loyalty to the brand - and the people behind it,  has been well earned by them. We are here, because we want to be here - and are happy to be so.  :)

That's really disappointing. I'd expect that if you can find the product description from when you bought the guitar on ebay, if it definitely says the guitar comes with BKP's then you should be due a refund because of false advertising or something similar. I may be wrong but you should definitely contact the seller!

Yeah, at the moment, I'm plotting out which guitars to buy next so I can use all the different pickups I want! It's quite addicting, actually.

I suggest you contact the seller, and notify them about the situation.  If the are not willing to compensate you via PayPal, or some other method, I would open a case with Ebay.  Let the seller know that this would be you intention.   If he compensates you, you can use the money to get you some BKP's.  Any way you dice it, it is your duty to protect other potential buyers from someone who is being unethical.

Yep I've had this recently also. Seller had himself been sold it as a BKP, apologised and refunded no problem.

Always worth bobbing an email first before opening a case. I've found that the last couple of times I've had issues with people it's been genuine and not because they were shysters.
