....the guy was, in said reps words, the perfect PRS customer ie. Can't play

Hmm, you've got me sussed.  :?

enough of this "i can't play" talk philly! a few of us have seen you in action and you sounded perfectly alright to me  :D

I bet Philly shreds. I always thought the 'Q' stood for 'Quite Bodacious Player'

I thought the "Q" was similar to another famous "Parts Quartermaster"

You'd only need half a bed to fit that lot under.

I just thought I'd add... I'm still blown away by the CE22 I got hold of. I'd like another as a backup, or another bolt on model. Problem is, either I got a really good deal on the CE22 or every other CE22/24 or Swamp Ash (HSH) is overpriced!

I think the Swamp Ash Special was always more expensive than the CE models.

But as I've said before, there are surprisingly few secondhand CEs around, given how long the model lasted (in various formats).  I think you probably did get a good deal!

I've managed to hunt out a couple of CE's.
I found one that was beat up and didn't have the original case, it was still £200 more than I paid for mine, which isn't beat up at all, just has the McCarty switching.

I also found one for about the same price as mine. It was older but it has non original pickups, a re-fret where the gaps under the fret wire haven't been nicely filled. extra holes from a 3 screw trus rod cover subsequently replaced with an official PRS one, and it has had a really poor job done on changing the nut. No idea about the wiring. I'd guess it's carrying a few scars too.

It seems like if you can find a regular dude wishing to sell one, you can get a deal. Buying from a store seems to lead to paying more than I'd expect. I think I was really lucky. I think the teal CE that was in the seconds out here went for £620 on ebay, and then I'm sure it appeared on brighton gumtree for £950. Seems to be quite a wide range on what things can be found for.

I was going to ask if you'd seen that one!

CEs tend to sell cheap, but get priced up too expensive.  £600-£700 seems to be the sweet spot.

I've also noticed that CEs tend to be relatively beaten up, by PRS standards - which is fair enough, it's definitely a "player's guitar".  :)

If you can find people willing to part with them at that price I think you're lucky. Though it's possible, best bet I've found for that is ebay still, but people need to be willing to start the bidding at what they would consider to be low.

I did see the Teal CE. But I fancied something different to the CE, like a Swamp Ash Special. I've been having a think about switching options with the old toggle style ones.
