Help with pickups for Ibanez RGA121H
« on: July 31, 2012, 04:55:00 PM »
Hi guys!
Im thinning my herd of guitars and keeping my prestige Rga121h.
Full mahogany body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard.
It needs to be my do it all workhorse.... so I need your expertise!
I like to play solo style like Jack Thammarat. (fluid clean tone, bell chimes)
I like 80's hair sound like Ratt. (rich creamy distortion)
I also play stuff with heavier distortion like some aggresive hardcore (terror), or even a bit of prog metal "djent/*cough*sorry.
I know its much to ask for with such a different tonal spectrum, but could you advise a set?
I already have a calibrated painkiller set in a les paul style guitar that I'm selling didn't bond with it.
Thanks a million!!

First thing I would do is put the Painkillers in the Ibanez. It could be a whole different story. And the Blackhawk bridge works wonders in my all mahogany guitar for the tones you mentioned except for the bell chimes. I'd get a different neck.

Thx for the feedback guys!
the painkillers in the lp have long legs, and one braided wire.
the 'banez has 5 switch selecter, short legs (lol lesson lived, leason learned).
I liked the bridge painkiller, but the neck not so...
But I need something new altogether..
Some guys on previous posts are recommending the Holy diver or Miracle man?
Some people like the rebel yell /vh2 combo?
Which one is more adaptable to my style(s) or lack of it haha.
I quite like the blackhawk neck (Nolly demo on youtube), does it sustain well?
Thanks again for your time! :band1:

Blackhawks sustain for a really long time with a pedal. Also for how produced Nolly's clips are on Soundcloud they are a realistic idea of what you can get with a heavy amp and good recording gear.

Do you ever thinking of matching The blackhawk with other pickups? Is That possible?
I was thinking of the rebel yell bridge and blackhawk neck?
Or just keep a vh2 in The neck?
About to pull the trigger this week!  :D and post a vid on youtube!
Cheers!

I'm not sure, but I guess the VHII matches the RY a bit better.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I'd agree. The BH neck would be much darker.
