OK
so got this Boss GT 8 multi effects processor. I am NOT a computer expert and to be honest some of it sceers me LOL (with crashes, virus's etc.)

Anyway, the GT 8  has midi capabilities and there is a program for editing patches for the GT 8.

Also patches are posted.

Anyway, I have read some problems with connecting a USB to Midi with windows XP sp2.

I can get this cable "M-Audio USB Uno 1X1 MIDI Interface" (or another, but this is the one that crops up alot in a search and is relatively cheap).

I have been reading over at www.bossgtcentral.com BUT I trust YOU guys! and consider THIS my forum HOME so wanted to ask you your opinions.

Basically there seems to be driver/recognition issues with this cable config. at times.

Is there a chance I can "fry" somthing? Transfer a virus or somthing to the GT 8?

Any suggestions for hookup?

I have a Sony Laptop Intel P III 700MHz 256 RAM windows service pack 2.

Appreciate any words of wisdom to those more computer savvy than myself.

Cheers,

Nick

Hi,

I use a Line 6 Flextone III which I control/edit from the PC in a similar manner to the GT8 - I have it connected via a midi cable straight through the game port on the soundcard.  The cable was from Maplin - this link takes you to the one I use

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=13511&criteria=midi&doy=16m2

And its probably cheaper than a midi-USB connector.
