What Sort of tone/band Sound Will Warpigs Give Me
« on: August 02, 2012, 03:43:19 PM »
Folks:

Obviously you can tell that I am new to this forum, as I am asking a ton of questions.  Sorry about that.  I am just wondering what sort of tone/sound will Warpigs give me.  If there is a band that you can think of that you can compare it to, I would appreciate it.  I am outfitting all of my guitars with Bare Knuckle pickups, and am wondering about Warpigs.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

John

I think the Warpig is in the vacinity of the SD Invader. So think Avenged Sevenfold. I could be wrong though.

It'll do metal on the extremely heavy side of things. Also I believe it is named after the Black Sabbath song. Really good for that.

I'ts probably somewhat versatile too but I don't know.

Most BKPs are named after an artist, or album / song by an artist
it may give you a mental starting point for the pickups tone or the inspiration for the sound being sought

obviously all the pickups are versatile and will handle a wide spectrum of styles that transcend the named artist.
I think we ought to have a sticky that will explain the references made for the benefit of players who may not have heard those artists or records (God I sound old just saying record now).

So Warpig is an homage to the sound of Tony Iommi's guitar in the classic Sabbath era, but it's more than heavy metal (as is Iommi who has a huge amount of Jazz influences too)

The neck pickup is actually great for Jazz as well as smouldering rock solos.
The Warpig is a nice fat sounding pickup with a big bottom end ....
It's great in basswood superstrats that can be a touch thin sounding otherwise.

 My bad. I put it into a box without remembering/realizing it's a lot more than that!

the alnico warpig sounds nothing like the invader
in terms of voicing it could be compared to a tone zone, but the texture and response are different
there's a unique feel on the midrange and top end
it's grindy and open at the same time
not a shiteloaded of saturation like the invader or even the tonezone compression
but I guess the ceramic version could be somewhat compared to the invader, in voicing at least

I agree with this.  It also depends on what your guitar is made out of, and what your signal chain is.
