Ceefax
« on: August 03, 2012, 06:43:02 AM »
So,
Just finished my last nightshift for a while. It's been quiet due to certain sporting events.

SO there was a bass and guitar in here last night. Managed to use a scart adapter with phono video and audio inputs, along with an analog to serial digital video converter with audio embedder to get guitar and bass on left & right audio channels of a video source on an SDI router. Routed that to some monitoring points to act as an amplifier. The guitar was going into a sansamp bass driver and a danelectro french fries (auto wah). The bass was going straight into the scart.

at some point in the early hours we realised ceefax has an awesome backing track. So we started laying down some smooth bass lines and tasty hamfisted jazz riffs over the instrumental genius that is the ceefax soundtrack. amazing. next time you can't sleep... get your jazz on!

At the minute. It's being turned off forever pretty soon though.

I can see disadvantages :  As Dmoney pointed out,   I'd never get round to booking that last minute holiday - and  would probably end up wearing a giant pair of ( Bootsy Collins ) sunglasses in dark rooms ,   have a gold tooth - and spend my nocturnal hours getting down with my own bad self...  8)

sometimes i switch to that "pages on ceefax" at night to listen to the music- it's actually really good  Though it never tells you what it is, which sucks.

Not had quite as an impressive guitar rig as that, but it reminded me:

A few weeks ago I was fixing an audio console at a French broadcasting house, and at 1am-- shortly after starting my testing, their QC chap runs in and tells gets me to stop... they hadn't unpatched the console from the transmitter, so all my testing had been going out on French TV! Was amusing, but it's just a shame I hadn't got round to checking the Talkback to PGM function :) Thought your story was going to pan out similarly!
