Pole pieces and tone..

Probably a stupid question but I'll ask anyway. Just about to put my Mules in my SG as I hardly ever use my Epi any more but want to swap the polepieces over as gold ones look odd on a guitar with nickel hardware. Will the material or anything affect tone though? I'm just taking them from an old set of Epiphone pickups..

It sounds like you're asking if you can take the old pole pieces from the Epi pups and put them in the Mules. Do I have that right? I can imagine that with that operation you could: ruin the Mules and the Epi pups, void the warranty, and most likely you need some crazy tools if it's even possible. To me it sounds like a bad time.

Crazy tools? They just screw in/out. I don't mean the ones with no screw heads on them! They're covered pickups.

The polepieces from the Epiphone pickups will probably have metric threads, but the BKP polepieces have imperial threads - so I doubt you'll be able to make a direct swap.

Apart from that, if you can swap them things like different metals, different plating, length of screws can affect the tone but it'd be pretty subtle.   But putting the pickups in a different guitar will make a much more significant difference!

You should just be able to swap them over (EDIT: unless Philly's right, which he probably is!).  There may be a slight tonal difference, but I bet you wouldn't notice it.

I'm sure BKP could sell you some screws if you asked them if you're really bothered?

haha well I just tried to take the poles out of the epiphone pickup and they're completely different to the BKP ones so they won't fit anyway! Just gonna stick em in with the gold ones for now and maybe get some silver ones from Bareknuckle when I can be bothered.
