Engl Screamer Line-out Problems
« on: August 10, 2012, 03:36:00 PM »
Today I tried to do a bit of recording to compare how my Screamer sounds micing the combo to using the line out and cabinate impulses, but I got a bit of a problem: I'm not getting any signal to record.

It's definately making some sort of connection, since I had the ground button in the wrong position, I got a lot of hum from my computer. Grounding it got rid of the hum, but I couldn't get any guitar sounds either way. The cable seems to work fine connected to the mic and worked about a year ago the last time I tried using the line out. And I tried messing about with the level control on the back of the amp.

Am I missing something obvious or is there a fault? And is a fault something I might be able to sort myself/get done cheaply?

Line 6 GX. Cable is XLR one end, jack at the other. Works fine using a mic.

Do you have a cab hooked up too? Or is it a direct out like the Blackstar line where it turns off the cab load? If not you may have done serious damage to your amp.

Still hooked up to the internal speaker. The Screamer can't do silent recording.

Oh yeah I guess it's a combo amp haha. So is your software is receiving no signal or is it just not sending a signal to your monitors/headphones?

Do you get any level if you turn the amp up?

I've found some line outs on amps are padded so much the signal is miniscule so you really have to boost it sometimes in the interface or use a preamp with it.

Oh yeah I don't know if it's similar but on the Blackstar only the channel volume affects the output, not the master.

I think the line out on the Screamer is after the power amp, so both volumes should work. Both were at an reasonable volume for the house, but not quiet. It's also got a line out volume on the back, wich I tried in both min and max positions incase I was turing it the wrong way. Also tried with and without a 18db input boost in POD Farm, which I was using for a noise gate.

Nothing I'm afraid.
