Tele necks - where to buy them?
« on: August 13, 2012, 08:06:06 PM »
Hi folks, I'm thinking of getting a new Tele neck for my '72 Custom reissue.  I can't get on with the vintage radius as the strings choke out above the 12th fret and the action has to be higher than I'd like otherwise it just frets out and buzzes bad anyway and looses all it's ring/sustain.

I'd like to get a compound radius one as it's really nice for chording in the lower registers, but I'd really prefer a flatter radius up the dusty end.

I'd appreciate some links to who is good for this stuff, and not too pricey.  I appreciate the work of the custom-guitar guys here on this forum, but their prices are out of my budget at present.

If it's buzzing/fretting out, maybe it just needs a tiny truss rod adjustment? I had terrible buzzing after my 12th fret and it took a  quarter turn and it was good to go... If there's any problem with ringing out maybe adjusting the bridge... you could also get a guy to make you a new nut that's higher... I noticed that I put 11's on my 72 custom and it's actually split the nut on the low E!!

If you want the name of a good nut man and super cheap (you can send him your old one and he'll do some mathematical tricks or just photos) pm me.

Cheers

Oh yeah, if you want cheap necks they are putting new necks on here at 25 Dollars! It's really luck of the draw if they have any in stock, but the stock changes daily. http://www.guitarfetish.com/Factory-Buyout-Clearance-Sale_c_410.html

I was in the same boat as you. I really wanted to get something from one of the guys on the forum but I just couldn't push to it.

After doing a lot of research I went with Musikraft and got a complete customs order even down to some extras that they don't usually offer but did at my request with no additional charge.

The prices are very reasonable for what you get.

I love this one...  http://www.musikraft.com/product-info.php?pid495.html

Still, a bit on the pricey side for me.  I know guys locally who'll make a neck to a very decent standard for under £150.00
