Which middle S/C to pair with Miracle Man & Coldsweat?
« on: August 24, 2012, 08:33:09 AM »
Well I've pretty much been on a rollercoaster ride the last 2 weeks but finally decided on the Miracle Man for the bridge after reading Startiblast's (hope I spelt that right ) review. I was torn on the HD/NB and found myself wanting the thickness of HD with the aggresiveness of the NB, so Miracle Man for me. Also decided on the Cold Sweat neck.

But to business... What would be a good single coil to balance with both pickups? I've obviously got my modern metal sound with the bridge, and a versatile shred pickup that also plays cleans for the neck, so I'm after something which will surprise me and give me something new when on it's own. But obviously it would need to balance with the HBs as well.

Ta,

I would go for a Trilogy Suite.

The Sinner would be full and humbucker-bassy from the samples, but you already have your humbucker tones covered with the MM and the CS.

The Slowhands are middier while the MM and CS sound more scooped. The Irish Tours are a bit more scooped, but more volume drop than the TS.

Depends on what tones you want from the middle pickup, do you want something more P90-ish or something more twangy?

I have no real experience with these singles, but without more information provided I would go for the TS.
Black Dog (b), Abraxas (b), The Mule (n), Mississippi Queen (n), Trilogy Suite (m)

Had: Riff Raff 7 (b), Painkiller 8 (b)

Well I think I have my thickness from both pickups, so possibly something more stratty for the inbetween and split coils. But again something that balances well.

The IT-middle pickup sounds very nice as stand alone-pickup, but mixes also good with humbuckers in splitmode, like the Crawler in my HSS-strat. Of course it has vintagehot-output, not on par with a TS.

Well I think I have all the contemporary tones covered with the humbuckers, so the Irish Tour or Slow Hand could be an idea. I just have no clue when it comes to middle pickups as I'm used to either playing the neck or bridge, so this could be a new experience I may enjoy.

You might indeed. New sounds often inspire to play different things.
