I got a Godin LG from the mid 90's which was my number one guitar (and only playable guitar) for a long span of years. The last few years it hasn't seen much use and I have actually wanted to sell it. I've been longing for a guitar that I can downtune for some heavy stuff and got the idea, that I could use the LG for this. Then I wouldn't have to buy a new guitar and the old one would be picked up more often. Problem solved  :D

The specs of the guitar is: Mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, bolt on neck, two humbuckers, 5 way switch and string through body design.

My thought is that the guitar will be tuned to D or C# and I need a set of pickups that can handle the downtuning which isn't massive. I got an alnico Nailbomb in an other guitar and I could throw it in the LG. Any oppinions in this swap? I'm not looking for a certain tone. I just want something that can deliver some raunchyness and stay clear under downtuning.

As for the techie bit. The pickups in the LG is direct mounted and each has three screw holes on both side of the pickup and the pickups are mounted by three screws - two in the outer positions at one side and one in the middle position on the other side. I've attached a picture where you should be able to see this. Do you think this will pose a problem for installing a regular humbucker with just one screw hole?

I'm looking forward to hear your inputs gents  :D

I think the nailbomb should work fine with all this mahogany. I don't do much drop-tuning but last time I did I found mine (Abomb bridge) to work better than most other pups I played, including some ceramic ones.

Can't really help wrt/ direct mount etc, no experience with this - but hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

Nailbomb is pretty tight, even downtuned, so should be no problem.
Don't about the screws. I would ask BKP.

I don't think you're going to be able to mount them directly without drilling new holes in the legs on either side of the existing holes. If you try to put a screw through the existing holes, you will bugger the threads.
