nailbomb/mule pickups now in Epi LP
« on: September 02, 2012, 01:25:35 AM »
Hey guys, well I finally got my pickups, and are now in my guitar.

Intial thoughts were 'well, there is no huge difference'. Then I kept playing, and noticed all the nuances, and unbelievable tone.

The Mule in the neck compliments the Nailbomb in the bridge very nicely. not muddy, and a great old school bluesy tone.

The Nailbomb, I was surprised at just how easy it is to get false harmonics, and a great lead tone in general (before this I never liked using the bridge pickupo for this).

Verdict after a short while......... These things are amazing. Even just playing through a cr@ppy 20watt Roland at the moment. Playing through a tube driven amp, these things will soar!!!

Even with the nice hi gain stuff, can still get a great warm clean sound.

Love them. Love everything about them.

The difference might not be that huge "through a cr@ppy 20watt Roland" - should be more obvious with a decent valve amp. Anyway, I have the same set in my goold old SG and it just slay - but still:

Then I kept playing, and noticed all the nuances, and unbelievable tone.

Welcome onboard 8-)

Glad you like them. I have a calibrated Mule-set in a all mahogany Saint Blues and they are perfect. The neck particularly is sweet.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

yeah, the Mule surprised me a little. really good, usable rythym sound.

The Nailmbomb in the bridge, is the shite though.

With the old pickups it was a case of having like 2 tonal varities to me. Now with these, its expanded infinately.

And, Blackstar tube amp in the process of purchasing.

so now the Blackstar is engaged.

with the BKP pickups......... HO-LEE     cr@p!!!!!!

These things are amazing. It was like someone swicthing a light on for the first time.

The tones available (compared to the older pickups) were like I was playing with a dishcloth over the strings. Even with high gain, EVERY note is defined (even with open chords).

Been recording with them a lot lately, and these have really blown me away. I was looking for a true 'Gibson' type sound. Well, with the Mule I got that (and more). With the Nailbomb in the bridge, I couldnt have asked for a 2 pickups to compliment eacj other more (Tim, you are a godman genius).

Now, just waiting for the Strat pickups to arrive, and no doubt the Strat will blow me away as well.

BKP pickups. I truly tip my hat.

Yeah, the Blackstar is basically Foo Fighter/Guns n Roses in a box (and everything in between).

That's really good to hear. No experience with the Mule yet but the Nailbomb is a fine pickup indeed.

Have fun with the axe,
Stephan

Only have the Mule neck - with a ABomb bridge just like the OP - and it's great.
