I played at an all day festival yesterday with 8 other bands. Most of the guitarists had huge rigs and massive pedal boards. My set up looked very modest - 30w Cornford Roadhouse combo, no pedals other than the boost switch. When we did our sound check the engineer called for some guitar and I noodled for a minute or so. I then saw him come out from behind his desk and walk the length of the hall while staring straight at me. I though I must have done something horribly wrong and incurred his wrath.

He leaned on the edge of the stage and beckoned me over. He then said that I had the best guitar tone he'd heard in years (he is a professional sound guy and also plays guitar in a very well regarded band) and he wanted to know what I was using. I was happy to point out that the secret invisible ingredient was my BK Rebel Yells. Made my day.

It proves once more smaller setups can work great on stage. Most soundengineers prefer low(er) volume on stage. It's easier for a balanced mix.

gwEm - Tim is a genius. I've never enjoyed playing as much as I do know because I'm the closest I've ever been to the tone in my head. But - now I want a good Les Paul that I can put some lower output BKs in, maybe Mules. I'm perfectly happy with my set up but I want to hear all those other wonderful tones I read about on this forum. Maybe I'll win the lottery although I'd actually have to start doing it.....

I like reading these posts. The simpler the set up, in my experience, the better the player/tone and so, like Philly, I would expect that much of the credit should go to you.

You'd LOVE Mules. I bought a Les Paul with one in the bridge and was amazed at the range of tones it could get, completely converted me from firebreathing high-output pickups!

I agree - because with simpler set ups you have to focus on your playing - which certainly never hurts.

They are fantastic and more versatile then I'd imagined.

Simpler is easier to maintain and adjust.

I sometimes think the less things in between, the more you hear just the guitar and amp. Back to the basics is sometimes the best.
