I think it's a protest against the 1% of the guitar playing population that owns PRS Private stock

I don't understand the feelings either.

The guitar doesn't do much for me but I can see the fantastic quality. The price is very high but probably justifiable in many ways.

Cars and guitars at this level share alot as has been mentioned.

Somebody may choose to spend a fortune on a Maybach (which to me is a tarted up Merc) but it's their money and they will own an incredible car.

I'd want a Ferrari.

Dave, enjoy the fruits of your labours and buy what you like.

If Dave fancies sharing the fruits of his labour, I'd happily baby sit for a while  8)

I really don't like this envy culture we have in this country. For some reason it's seen negatively for people to spend the money they've earned on nice things. Which is bullshiteeeeeeeeee.

It certainly is.  Mrs Twinfan works VERY hard in her job and has just picked up her new car, which is very nice indeed but it's not a Noble/Ferrari/Porsche etc.  She never mentioned it to anyone before getting it, and only talks about it if asked.

One of our neighbours is now blanking her, and won't even say hello or return a smile  :?  What's that all about?

I don't know how this will work in print (I get Guitar World using electrickery on my iPad now) but the current issue has a free PRS supplement with it. Haven't read it in detail yet, and it may not have much in the way of hot news, but there are some pretty pictures and a bit of discussion on recent PRS pickups. Might be worth a gander?

Actually, I think if you have an iPad you can get the Guitar World app (free) and download the supplement for nothing too.

Anyway back to the point at issue, Jonathan, you should be ashamed of yourself. :)

Dave, id really like to take that single cut off you, but it would probably take me a couple of years to get the funds together :( don't think that Natwest will let me get a loan for it!

I can understand Dave wanting nice things.. Those PRS Private Stock etc etc don't float my boat in the slightest, but one day I hope to be able to save enough for a really spectacular vintage Flying V - a '58, '67 or a Medallion.

Alot of people wouldn't have to balls to put down cash for something luxurious like a PRS private stock in the current times - money that I'm sure could easily be spent in a sensible way. So actually I kind of admire Dave for getting them.

I'm not sure having "balls" is the way I'd describe it gwEm!

I'm a live-in-the-now kind of person, and right now that guitar is my idea of perfection.  You can forget your '59 LPs, '56 Strats or '51 Teles, to me this is numero uno, top dog and the guitar above all others I'd like to own, play and enjoy.  I may never get the chance to buy it again, so I have to sacrifice a bunch of stuff to get it.  I don't have money like that lying around, and I'm juggling a bunch of things to get access to that amount of cash.  My credit card will be looking very, VERY bloated afterwards believe me.  :o

Our house is in need of interior cosmetic attention, and the plan to do that has now been put back to allow me to get this guitar.  Mrs Twinfan is an absoulte legend, with the patience of a saint, and she understands that I love my hobby and that this is a dream purchase above all others.  She was even there when I asked Paul Smith directly (when he was in Manchester earlier this year) if he would be producing a guitar of this spec, and he said not even his employees know what's in the pipeline so he couldn't tell me.  I did say to him that if he built one I'd buy it, and she remembers the conversation.

Once I've got it, I have promised to clear the debt and then sort the house out.  That will mean the end of guitar related purchases for a long time  with the exception maintenance things - strings, valves, cables etc.  I've said to myself I won't buy anything before and failed miserably, but in this instance I've promised Mrs Twinfan.  I will have access to some spectacular instruments to pas the time with though, so it's not all bad  ;)

Basically, I think it's time for me to get off the rollercoaster.
