Do international customers still take 17,5% off the shop price?

I assume you get to subtract VAT (check with Tim though), but you'd only get to subtract 14.9%.

there's gonna be some maths here!

say BK's cost £100 without VAT (for handiness to make the sums easier).

Add on the VAT, = £117.50 (which would be the price BK quote, since they don't advertise ex. VAT prices).

If I take 17.5% off that, I get: £96.94.

I.e. you are adding on 17.5% to the original price, to get the price inc. VAT, but to get from the inclusive price to the price minus the VAT, you have to multiply the inclusive of VAT price by (100/117.5).

In other words, you remove 14.9% or so from the total price.

Of course, all this is academic if you don't qualify!

We ship to Canada quite often and our dispatch time is about a week at the moment. (it usually takes about a week to get to canada)
Remember when ordering that you are not liable for VAT so you can deduct 17.5% from the total price.

^did anyone even read my post?

AFAIK, the 17.5% is what's added on to the first pre-VAT amount, not what's taken off...

I think.

Because if you add 17.5% on to the original, it's not the same as removing... never mind.

I don't know, but i'd check it out with Tim etc., to see if you remove 17.5% or 14.9%, before just doing it.

^ I don't know, I may be overcomplicating things. it makes sense mathematically though, but then when did governments ever use maths in a sensible way?

I can't find any info on it anywhere.

If you find out the answer from tim or whoever, could you shoot me a pm? I'd be interested to know.

Cheers!

ok so dave if you added 17.5 initially, THEN took away 17.5 thats it right? so thats the same as just taking away 14.5% in the first place? is that wot your saying?

^no.

assume starting price of £100.

Add 17.5% = £117.50

Then, if you try to subtract 17.5% from the £117.50, by multiplying by 0.825, you get an answer of £96 or so, not the £100 as it should be.

To get back to the £100, you have to multiply by 0.851 or something (i.e. removing 14.9%).

Try it.

As I said, though, I'm not sure the way the government does it- but the maths suggests they should do it my way, although they might not.

EDIT: basically, the easiest way to look at it is, 17.5% of £100 (original pre-VAT price) does not equal 17.5% of £117.50 (Post-VAT price).

All our prices include VAT. there is no need to add it, just take away 17.5% from the advertised price.

The shop automatically removes VAT for non EU customers once the address has been filled in on the order form.
