ESP LTD EC-1000VB
« on: September 17, 2012, 05:42:18 AM »
So this has probably been floating around on the forums for a while, but i'm new and i want to get a solid few answers on the subject.
I have, as stated above, an LTD EC-1000 with the flat vintage black finish. Now i've been looking and listening to BKP's for a while now, and i'm starting to think i want to switch my EMG's to a set of BKP's (or even a single bridge pickup with a Sustainiac in the neck).

I play mainly metal, so i'm looking for something that caters to that. I don't know a whole lot about differences with pickups except the main differences between actives and passives, so i pretty much want a few recommendations as to which pickup to get. Was thinking about the Aftermath, Painkiller, and the Nailbomb, but i don't know the main differences between them.

That may not have made any sense, but whatever...

If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated!  :D

This doesn't really answer your BKP question but....  I have an Ltd H-351 and I swapped the 81/85 for an EMG Hetfield set and it improved it no end.  They are so good.

Would be interesting to hear nailbombs in the EC.  I have a Les Paul but I'm happy with it's 57's that are in it.

If your LTD sounds like my ESP (also in vintage black btw) then most pickups should fit, as the instrument is overall quite nicely tonally balanced. The ebony fretboard in combination with a bright pickup could make the treble strings sound a bit thin, unless you put 11s on it (and maybe tune it down). In general however this isn't such a problem with Bareknuckle pickups.

If I was to put in Bareknuckles, I'd consider the following, depending on the style of music:
Mule
Black Dog
Nailbomb
Holy Diver
Miracle Man

Of the choices you've listed, I'd go with the Nailbomb, because it's just a great-sounding and versatile pickup.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

Alex summed it up already. Nailbomb or Miracle Man are the obvious choices.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I was thinking about making that switch! However, from what i gather, EMG's are EMG's...

Thank you! You pretty much answered my question(s). I first heard about the Nailbomb, but i've been wary in case they were almost 'too' perfect for high gain stuff, you know? But based on what i've heard, i think i'll just go for it and get a Nailbomb in the bridge. Ceramic, of course ;) and in the black battleworn....*dribbles*

Thanks again! :)

The Het set is different from other EMG models.  I have 81/85 and 81x/60x and the Hets are more natural sounding.  They are the best sounding pick up they make.

I'd email the BKP guys and ask for their advice.  They are great and quick to respond.  I'd personally go for an alnico nailbomb but I'd ask the guys first.

Alnico sounds good  :)
