removing covers

I'm thinking of removing the cover on my stock Epi neck pickup, both for aesthetics and hopefully make it a little less woolly sounding, does anyone have experience with Epi pickups, I'm assuming they are wax potted,  if i remove the wax potting around the bobbins will it suffer from microphonic squeal?

dont do it mate... those epi coils look pretty ugly underneath that wax/resin or whatever they use.

this is the voice of bitter experience :)
