Annihilator tone.
« on: September 29, 2012, 08:55:01 PM »
It's been a long time since I've done one of these threads!

I can kinda get there with my nailbomb in my strat and I can also kinda get there with the miracle man in my Ibanez.

however neither are optimal.

I find the nailbomb isn't tight enough and is a tad bloated in the lows and the miracle man has way too much low end push and is a bit too aggressive in the high end.

here's what i'm aiming for.

He uses duncan customs doesnt he?

Of Bks if you put a gun to my head I'd say a cold sweat. I'm pretty sure youre familiar with those already though?

nah he uses some proprietary Gibson a5 jobby.

The cold sweat has crossed my mind as it's been a while since I've used them but from what I remember the midrange was very polite sounding and it needed boosting and well you know my feelings on that.

after watching a few more videos from that gig it seems both Waters & Padden are using dirty fingers.

Just had a look on ebay.... There's so many dodgy looking Chinese ones.

I would say painkiller, but for the video tone, a cold sweat would work
or convert your nailbomb to ceramic
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

I always thought he used Duncan Distortions  :?

Jeff Waters is a killer guitarist, solid as hell - saw him supporting Priest back on the Painkiller tour at Newcastle City Hall.  Annihilator were touring the album with Stonewall on (2nd LP).  Thats when people still bought records and albums were called albums, oh and 12" singles existed with cool limited edition gatefolds and such.  I remember a place in Newcastle that used to get all the promos and sell them off (naughty naughty), but I got some great stuff from them.
