Help choosing new pickup

I am thinking of either getting a Seymour Duncan Sh-6 Distortion or Sh-5 Custom. It will be in the bridge position. I mostly play stuff like opeth, slayer, metallica, led zeppelin, sabbath and so on. However, I have been recommended to look at BK pickups and so I am wondering what the equivalent of those pickups would be from BK and what I should go for?

I think you're browser took you to the wrong forum. You need www.seymourduncan.com for advice on Seymour Duncan pickups. This forum is for Bare Knuckle Pickups.

In any event, at 80 pounds, you can almost afford a new BKP anyway. I would advise you to wait, buy a Bare Knuckle pickup, and enjoy a much better-made product.

None of us BK pickup users here would really recommend a SD!The BK's just blow them out the water in every way! I would save up and get a great pickup(BK) as opposed to a average pickup (SD).My opinion.

Sorry about the bad post  :oops: . What I really mean to ask is what Bareknuckle pickup would be best for the bridge position, and playing music such as Sabbath, Opeth, Slayer, Led Zeppelin and such?

I'd have a look at the Nailbomb pickup if I were in your position. I've got a SD JB pickup in one of my guitars, and a set of Nailbombs in the other. The JB sounds so muddy in comparison with the Nailbombs. What I like about the Nailbomb is that is also has a nice clean sound. Tim recommended them to me over the Warpig (which has very high output for a passive pickup) because I wanted something that would be suitable for indie to AC/DC to Rammstein.

Nailbomb. Reminds me of something between Duncan Distortion and Duncan Custom, with better and more organics mids and better versatility. Added clarity too (without harshness)

Awesome, definitely sounds like what i'm wanting. Glad I found BK before I went ahead and got anything else.

I was also wondering why the Warpig is more expensive than the Nailbomb? Is it better or just likely more expensive to make? It did get a fantastic review..

The warpig takes longer to age the cover on - tonally it has a different character, neither is 'better' it depends on application! :P

Can't really help comparing Duncans, I only really know the older ones and a few single coils from back when they made them well!

They send the cover of the Warpig through a time teleporting machine back to the dark ages and dig it up present day. It's very expensive but worth it.  :D

Wow not quite sure what you mean about the time machine thing but it must be good!

What is the main tonal difference between the Warpig and Nailbomb? From the samples I have heard, the nailbomb seems to be a bit more trebly and more of a bridge pickup whereas the warpig seems more bassy, maybe better for the neck. What do you think?

The Warpig is more bassy, probably the bassiest pickup in the BKP range. All of BKP's pickups are calibrated for their position. If you order a pickup for the bridge position, you'll get a pickup that is calibrated for that. Neck pickups are usually lower output so they don't get muddy. In case of the Miracle Man, the neck pickup even has a different magnet.

The Nailbomb is the most versitile of BKP's metal pickups. The Warpig is a chug master. Both do cleans great, however, I think the Nailbomb does a better clean.


The time machine thing was a joke btw. I pretty much know how they age it, but I'm keeping it a secret. :twisted:

so if you got a warpig with a standard cover (or opencoiled), would it be the same price as all the other HBs?
