I see what you mean - looks like they routed that neck pocket so there's plenty of room for either a Strat or Tele  neck!

Interesting that the switch cavity and wiring channels are completely different too.

Yep -  looks like on them Messican models they just leave in a .375 or half inch cutter and oversize all the cavities to allow room for the corners, then dog-bone the neck pocket because the scratch guard will hide it. No tool changes, nice and easy production on the CNC... :lol:

My MIM Fender has that peculiar rout, always wondered why, but it makes sense now. Too bad that ease of production could lead to shoddy parts, but I suppose that's more the norm than the exception.

Yup, you are correct. Fender MIM has always been hit or miss, you've got to do some homework on the specific model to know what to expect. Not happy with how they did a lot of the Road Worn series guitars, however I have a Players Strat and a Cabronita Tele that are both wonderful. The Strat is not a swimming pool route and has a proper neck pocket.
The Cabronita has a nice fat 22 fret neck with a wide nut. Both bodies are heavy ash.
