I find this bit especially funny:

Although he did concede he may consider using added protection next season.

"It's something I'm going to look at because obviously I've only got one now - so I've got to look after it.

"If I want any more kids this has got to be my pride and joy."
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

This is why I don't ridicule Rugby. The fact that these guys are true sportsmen, and the Rugby guys at school were fairly decent lads and didn't beat me up like the footballers used to.

Football is a fairie's game where rolling around like a prissy little drama queen is actively encouraged as a "tactic". Lame.

I used to play rugby and whilst I am pleased to report that I remain entire in that I have retained my "equipment" I do think that those who play rugby are a breed apart. None of this poncey rolling around on the floor in apparent agony when someone runs within 5 feet of us. I remember a team mate of mine broke his leg during a rugby match and although in a lot of pain, hobbled around for 5 minutes before being dragged off the pitch still protesting that he'll be fine in a few minutes.

I was going to say "that guys nuts!", but then i thought it might be a bit inappropriate :)

i saw that story, and was astounded. as you say, football players are little girls in comparison.  soccer players wouldn't last five minutes in Gaelic football either!

And neither Soccer or Rugby men would manage more than a flicker on a Hurling pitch...

Many years ago I had the honour of playing rugby for Uganda against Kenya in an Africa Cup game - I am British, used to teach rugby and was a semi-Pro in the UK - the Ugandans did not have enough players so chose some of us expats from the Kapala team.   Anyway, I was playing full back and just after half time the ball was booted high to me so I was going to do the usual mark and boot it back but for some reason it hit directly on top of my index finger and bent it back 90 degrees at the second knuckle.  Caught the ball and marked it.   The South African doc ran on, bent my finger back, taped it up and told me to stay on as there were no subs to come on.  We won!  I drank a lt of White Cap!

Oh well, whilst not good, if you are going to injure a hand then the picking one is probably better than the fretting hand.

Gaelic Football Hardmen.

Some years ago, a local championship match was played in Tyrone. By all accounts, it was an incredibly hard-fought affair, and towards the end, neither team had a sub remaining.

One team had a full forward, limping heavily, and good for nothing. The only possible sub was a blood sub. So he asked the other full forward, his team mate, to punch him in the face. After a few attempts to get the blood going, our hero eventually retires with a broken nose. A sub appears. All is well until; the after match report, and I think that the result was declared invalid, and the match rescheduled.

It's worth mentioning that GAA is an amateur sport, and it was an under 18's match.

That's not a demonstration of hardness, that's a demonstration of idiocy. Top of the eyebrow, downward blow, instant blood.

I don't get the competition in manliness between sports disciplines. It's chest beating, macho, laughable nonsense for youngsters that haven't grown up yet.
