Hi I have a 2003 Les Paul standard fitted with a set of Stormy Mondays and upgrade BK pots and caps. Iam wanting to upgrade the bridge pickup with something more fatter sounding. To my ears the stormy monday bridge sounds quite thin until I turn up the drive, The pickup that Iam interested in Is the Black Dog, Ihave seen Bruce Dickinsons review on youtube and It sounds superb, I want a pickup that sounds full and not weak when the amps just breaking up, the stormy monday stills sounds thin and only starts sounding good with quite a lot of drive. I play through a quality amp [Hughes and Kettner puretone head and 2x12 cab] and Iam using a wampler ecstasy overdrive pedal. Any advice from forum members would be very welcome. Mark.

The BD will certainly beef up your tone. It has a lot of centermids. If you dig a bit more output have a look at the Abraxas: PAF-ish with quite some mids, round but still chimey topend. Personally I would fav Mules in a LP. I have them in a bolt-on all mahogany Saint Blues: genuine PAF59-tone. They have less mids then BD of course, but I think they're nearly perfectly balanced.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I think the BD will do what you want, but you might find you end up wanting to change the neck Stormy Monday as well - it's a bit lightweight in conjunction with the BD bridge.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM
