Strat equivalent of the BG52 neck/set?
« on: October 28, 2012, 07:39:06 PM »
I have slow hands in the neck and middle positions of my MIA strat, and while i like them i also have a bg52 set in my tele and they are the best sounding pickups i've ever heard. They have the perfect mix of full lows, biting and clear mids and the perfect amount of highs, and the slow hands just cant compete. Now i know they are totally different guitars, but i'm still thinking about getting at least a strat neck pup with the qualities of the bg50 neck. From the tone charts the apaches seem to have the same tonal qualities as the bg50 set, has anybody tried both and and heard if that's the case?

This is interesting. I think a tele and a strat always will sound different, but perhaps an Irish Tour-neck can come close.

I've been thinking about the irish tour, but to my ears it seem to have not enought mid range. That might be the strat flavour of the bg52 sound though, has anyone compared irish tours to bg52?

From the official charts, the IT has indeed less mids, less highs and more lows than the BGF52. The MM - which is AV / 42AWG plain enamel like the IT and BGF52 - could be another "equivalent" but it seems to be even more mid-scooped than the IT (but with approx. the same highs and lows).

Well, a Strat ain't a Telly...

I emailed Tim and he recommends the Pat pend '59 neck. Didnt see that one comming, any thoughts on this? I can see how maybe the '63 would suit me, but the '59?

I don't know the 59 set at all but if Tim makes a suggestion then it is normally worth going with it. I suspect the early style pickup might have a slightly more raw edge to it. I am guessing on this I would hasten to add.
