Some help for the newbie? :D
« on: October 29, 2012, 05:44:27 AM »
Hey all!

I just signed up for this forum a few minutes ago, and I was curious if you guys could answer a question of mine

I have a Dean MLX (consists of a basswood body, rosewood fretboard, TOM bridge, bolt on maple neck, stock pickups) tuned to drop B, but I often use C tuning and drop Bb, I play a lot of veil of maya sounding stuff but I also play stuff similar to katatonia, so whats a pickup set or combo that can "Djent"(only word I can really say) and also get those beautiful cleans and crunchy rhythms of Katatonia, AKA versatile? That and what goes with Basswood and such

Also, I have a 7 string Ibanez RGD7421(basswood, rosewood fretboard, maple and walnut bolt on neck, fixed bridge, stock pickups, tuned to  Drop G) of which I also play stuff like Vildjharta, periphery, tesseract, and other similar bands, This guitar I mainly play Djent stuff with, but I still want glistening cleans and a little versatility?

If you guys can nudge me in the right direction that would be great!

Cheers!

Man this is a toughy lol.

I've been looking for the same sorta thing for my basswood guitar. Sorta found it with the VHII but i would look at getting the riff raff bridge. If you listen to the painkiller modern metal clip on the site then go to the Riff raff modern metal clip they sound pretty close to me only the riff raff has the organic quality. The riff raff was actually something i was about to get lol.

The rebel yell and Alnico nailbomb could also do what your wanting the combo of crunchy distortion with organicness.

No clue on the 7 string lol. Never owned one.

/2cents have fun :)

EDIT : Oh yea. Another thing to look at for improving guitar tone is .022uf caps :) And also if you have questions throw a email to the BKP guys. They know their pickups far better then anyone here lol.

I appreciate this! thanks for getting my head out of the stereotypical "Aftermath's" area XD

I will definitely look into the riff raff for the Dean :D
