which tele pups?
« on: November 01, 2012, 07:26:49 PM »
Hi,
This is my first post here so I'll introduce myself first.
I'm Robin, I mostly play metal but appreciate pretty much everything.
I first heard about BKP a few years ago when I was doing the sound in Sunderland for Ozzmosis (Ozzy tribute band) the guitarist and bassist said they knew Tim as he used to play in the band and were raving about his pickups.
A few months ago I decided to change the pickups out on my 72 les paul standard and wanted something other than EMGs for a change.  I went for the rebel yells and oh my holy christ, I am impressed!

Anyway I'll get to the point, I have recently acquired a Fender roadworn 50s tele which has country boy pickups in.
It sounds great, I can definitely appreciate that they are amazing for country however I would like (if possible) to get this tele sounding somewhere close to my les paul with the rebel yells. I already have a blackguard tele I can use for all the chickin pickin stuff.

So... which tele pickup? Primarily concerned about the bridge pup as I like the country boy neck pup.  I was thinking maybe a SD hot rails but was wondering if anyone has any suggestions / is there a BKP tele pup that will get me close?
Here's an idea of what I'm going for... my 72 les paul with rebel yells

Oh and I would like it to be single coil size

Hi and welcome. I think you want the blackguard flat 50s. It's obviously not going to sound like a LP with 'buckers but it should have the right mix of power, chunkiness and clarity.
Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

Thanks guys, I hadn't considered them at all what with being listed under "vintage".
I'm impressed with the sound clips, definitely going in the short list.
Any opinions on the piledriver? They seem to be a closer match on paper...

My initial thought was a Piledriver. I have no experience with the pup, but it seems to be the closest match to a humbucker.
Mississippi Queens, Stormy Monday/Apaches, Emeralds, Nailbomb (bridge)

Early telecaster pickups were not shy. I have a flat52 set and they are already quite hot and meaty while retaining the vintage twang and vibe.

Pile drivers will have a more modern and compressed tone. They might fit your needs too.
