Difference between Cold sweats and Holy Divers?

Hey ya all!

I planning on getting a pickup upgrade for my LP and I have narrowed my choices to 2. So I'd like to know the main differences between Cold sweat and Holy Diver because I have a big problem on deciding which would suit better for hard rockin' heavy metal :twisted: . I have a Edward LP custom. It's mahogany bodied guitar with a hard maple top. So if some would be so kind and help me a bit? Thanks

well, the holy diver has been revamped, it now comes with an alnico V magnet, while the CS is ceramic, that'd be a major difference.

Don't really know about the tone, though.

Holydiver will be lower output, more vintage sounding, and will have better cleans.
Cold Sweat will sound more modern and 'BIG', much more powerful (higher output, but less dynamics), and not-so-good cleans.

I suggest you listen to the songs each pickup is based on...

I would go for the Cold Sweat, Its great for rock and metal. Its very powerful and harmonically rich with a massive amount of tight bottom end and screamin highs.

I know the Cold Sweat was really voiced for a heavier-massed guitar, just like your LP clone. I have one in a super strat, and I love it, but it might be too bright for some folks in that particular application.

The Holy Diver has a 'bigger' sound, definitely good if you're the only guitarist in your band or want a really big, midrange-intensive sound.

I'd go along with that although having played HJMs Ibanez with a Cold sweat in the bridge I was surprised at the balls it had...............but it is bright which I think is one of it's strong points along with the power 8)

Thanks for the help! I now know which one to get  :)  Well now I just have to decide if I'd get it with covers or not...

Cold Sweat is more tight bass, and a bit dry. Holy Diver is more juice and bloom, less tightness.

Absolutely!  The Cold Sweat is a great pup in a super strat for an old school metal tone!
