guitar necks in the UK?
« on: February 22, 2006, 07:26:52 PM »
anyone know where i could buy a guitar neck (preferably a baritone if its possible) in the UK? warmoth is the kind of thing im looking for but seeing as its just a neck i dont want to have to pay so much for shipping.

so does anyone know of any businesses/shops similar to warmoth in the UK that could get me a decent *LES PAUL* style neck? the les paul being the key part of that sentance- definately dont want a strat style neck at all.

Mighty Mite aren't really comparable with Warmoth in terms of quality. I spent ages doing the exact same thing you're doing before realising the only way I could get a decent neck that's not for an exact Strat replacement was to go outside the UK, to Warmoth.

oh fiddlesticks...

what about a custom built one from a luthier.... would that be cheaper than a warmoth one when taking shipping it to account..?

My only concern about Warmoth is that every once in a while you hear a horror story - it's bound to happen with all companies from time to time, I guess - and my worry is if it happened to me, how would I go about returning it? That's really the only thing holding me back from getting involved with Warmoth - there really are times I wish I lived in the US. I guess I'm just a born worrier!

About Mighty Mite, how is the quality on them? The only thing I know is that a guy I knew online was getting one of their necks, but before it arrived the forum shut down so I've no idea how he got on.

There was a company called Loristra in the UK that made necks & bodies, but sadly they don't seem to be doing business anymore .

yer i share your worries about warmoth, and buying anything major from the U.S in general. also theres the initial shipping cost as well which is bad enough. my band mate bought this beautiful electro-acoustic from america for about £200 or so and ended up paying about £400+ because of shipping and tax.

doesnt look like i need a neck now though as i cant get my Melody maker copy built where i thought i was gonna get it done. out of interest, anyone know any places like feline that would do me a good body on its own, or maybe body+neck?

Feline are rediculoulsy expensive...they asked between 300-500 quid for a neck when I was looking.......the words off, Britain and rip came to mind

Our necks go from £250 upwards
Depends what specs/inlays etc you want in the neck
Certain woods may be more expensive.....
A lean back headstock LP type/ no binding/ simple inlays/ baritone would be about £300

Some may feel that £90-100 for a BKP pickup is a lot of money, when cheap impoted pickups can be had for a snip, or a secondhand other brand  on ebay may be a cheaper option but quality costs money.

A bargain is a bargain true enough - and there is a high cost involved with running a business or making anything in  the UK - even the cost of putting a band together and getting regular rehearsals /transporting gear all over the place is costly (which I am sure many of you already know)
