6-way Free-Way Toggle Switch
« on: November 15, 2012, 02:25:46 AM »
I've been tryin to research of people working a free-way toggle switch into their semi-hollowbodies, but i cannot find any examples of such. I'm tryin to customize my epi dot, and this is one of the modifications i wanna do. Is this possible to do? I don't have the experience or knowledge to do it myself, but I don't mind payin, since i trust my luthier. I'm waitin on my humbucker sized supermassive and nantucket pickups.
So is there anyone out there who has had experience with this? or any knowledgable people (since I know most of you are since I've been reading through the forums lol) who can give me any advice? Thanks a lot :)

there are not going to be 6 pickup switching options with only 2 single coil pickups - what are you expecting the switch to do.

i have used a couple, they are not very sturdy or reliable

Indeed those 6way switches are well known to be unreliable.

If you want some wild options.. Try a normal 3way, and then have push-pull pots to phase change one of the pickups and change from parallel to series wiring for the middle position.

hey thanks for the input. the in/out of phase sounds like a great idea. and I like the idea of looking into the parallel to series wiring.
what other options are out there for modifying single coil pickups?
I'm not looking for anything specific other than looking for different tones and timbre from my instrument. I've well traveled the pedal/effects route, now I wanna explore something more personal to the instrument and make it a little more versatile lol

This is also a great chance to learn some new stuff, as well lol
