BKP mini humbuckers?
« on: November 22, 2012, 08:15:05 PM »
Just wondering if BKP have any mini humbuckers in the works or have ever made any ????

A mini humbucker under a full size cover would be cool too, so its an easy retrofit.

I played an Epi 335 type the other night with Bulldog minis in and it was a really nice tone.  I've been looking for a change in my Les Paul for some time and the minis seem to fit the bill.

Anyone?

In the dim and distant past they had the 'mini mule' that they were working on with some pictures I think. I understand Tim hates working on miniHBs as they are very fiddly.

I love the miniHB tone myself, would like to see the mini mule or something like it released.

In the meantime Lollar do some good sets.

Correct indeed. https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=593.0

I too would love for BKP to do minis. I have been GASing quite hard for some since I saw Justin Vernon use them with Bon Iver for godly sounds.

I like LP Deluxes with mini-hb's. Maybe the niche is too small for BKP to make them.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I would assume so...at least too small relative to the extra work that would go into making them.
By that I mean that I imagine the market for 9 string PUs not being gigantic either but they are made comperably easily by adjusting existing things and I think Tim said that even 9 string PUs will probably be made in small numbers by BKP if requested because the adjustment is rather small, otherwise the market would be far too small to justify making them.

So I assume cost benefit goes against MiniHBs....or at least I hope so cause otherwise I will continue to demand of Tim to make some!

Oh and while we are at it, how about a horseshoe PU? I would looooove a lapsteel with one.

If it's a matter of tooling costs, I wonder how these were built?  Seems odd that BKP did have the capability to build them, then gave up.  :?

I'd have liked a set of those with aged covers and black rings....

I do think Tim makes rewounds of existing Minis though, doesn't he?

Another likely possibility is that Tim did work on them and was not able to make some that matched his standard which we all know is very high.

I would think either he was not satisfied with the resuslts or things like the different size covers just made them too costly to produce.
Canīt think of another possible reason right now.

I think so.... but then there's probably quite a bit of variation between different manufacturers, which could cause problems with rewinds.

The Deluxe style minis have polepieces and conventional humbucker construction, the Firebirds should have bar magnets instead of individual poles - but who knows what might actually be lurking under those sealed covers?

I actually have a mini-Mule, but they had to buy in the parts as it wasn't cost effective to have them set up like the regular pickups.  However I think that the standards Tim has are higher than the parts that came in, so he stopped making them (and they don't have the same internal structure to hold them and there are different mounting methods for different guitars).
So many pickups, so little time

Its a shame as I reckon there could be a niche for a mini humbucker under a full sized humbucker cover with the normal mounting arrangement.

Neck mini humbuckers have my favorite clean tones by far.

This.
I certainly would love that with BKP quality!
