How to remove truss rod nut on Fender
« on: November 26, 2012, 11:39:35 AM »
Hey Guys,

Been a while..  I just picked up this fender and am having an issue getting the neck bow correct.
I need a more convex bow but i ran out of truss rod..
I removed the walnut cap and washer but am dumb founded as to how to get the nut out.  I loosened
it all the way so I believe it is off the rod.

Any ideas?  I hear some are tact welded to the rod...I hope not..

What I want to do is add some washers so I get more room to adjust..

Here is a pic without walnut cap and washer.  Nut is tightened down all the way.  It only comes up the shaft 1/2 way more when unscrewed all the way.

I've never known anyone get one of the biflex rods out (I'm assuming that this is a USA made Fender)
Don't know if the nut can come off as it's a two way rod.
I would search google and Youtube to see if anyone has done suchlike

What I have often done is put a padded wedge/support under the 6-7th fret area of the neck and get a friend to lean on the body end while I pull down the headstock and tighten it just a bit more - you are doing the truss rods work for it by leaning on the neck and often you can get just an extra bit of rotation  out of the rod - just enough to hold it all in place.

USE A FRESH UNDAMAGED 1/8" ALLEN KEY TO PREVENT IT WRECKING THE ALLEN SOCKET IN THE END OF THE ROD.
Old ones tend to burr and spoil the shape of the socket

good call. I tried your trick and it worked. I was able to
get just enough more turns to get the neck perfect. Cheers!!
