NGD - Charvel Custom Shop San Dimas
« on: December 03, 2012, 01:09:55 PM »
Look what the UPS man brought me this morning!

Excuse the shoddy phone pic; I'll be trying again with my brother's decent camera later tonight. It's a 2009 Charvel Custom Shop San Dimas. Flamed ash top on mahogany, rosewood neck with birdseye maple fretboard, P90s with 3-way toggle and master volume.

The build quality is impeccable, the sounds are exactly what I've always wanted from a P90 guitar and the neck feels like, well, a thick chunk of raw rosewood with a maple board and massive frets. Which is handy, because I love maple fretboards and massive frets. It turns out that a twin soapbar Charvel Strathead is exactly what I always wanted out of life. I'm in love. In fact I'm neglecting my love by sitting here, so I'm going to go and give it some more attention. :)

I like it!  A rosewood neck with a maple board sounds like a weird idea but.... interesting!  :D

And you can't go wrong with P-90s.  :)

I love that. I didn't know Charvel strayed so far from the "regular" Superstrat design. I used to own one of the original US built EVH guitars and it was beautifully put together. If your one is built like that then you've really bagged a beauty. Fantastic.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. It really is a stunner, and I couldn't be happier. The sound is somewhere between a fat Fender tone and an SG, which isn't a big shock given the specs. I managed to get a few slightly better shots of the body and neck today, for my fellow wood deviants. ;)

I found a webpage that keeps track of Charvel custom shop serial numbers. It looks like they built a couple of other P90-loaded San Dimas customs at around the same time. Perhaps it was just the whim of one of the builders, or maybe they were for a show display. Whatever the reason, I'm glad they did; I have indeed bagged a beauty!

Wow, I didn't see that it had a rosewood neck. That just upped it considerably.

Enjoy it!
