Unidentified BKP

Hi guys,

I just sold my Caparison Horus this week and the buyer did not want the bridge pickup that was in it. So after taking it out it turns out it is a BKP. The guy I bought the guitar from swore it was the stock Caparison pick, which clearly was not as the Gotohs that come stock in Caparison are very easy to identify. The pickup looks very similar to a SD 59, with the black paper tape around the bobbins. I have no idea what it's output is and don't have a way to find out easily. Maybe it is an older model as it does not come with the braided cable BKP usually come with. Well, here are some pics in case someone has ever seen a similar one.

you could only discard the warpig, aftermath and blackhawk
it doesn't have a braided wire cause it has 4 conductors
you gotta check the dc resistance with a multimeter and also check the magnet sides
the bobbins and magnet heights might say something as well
most ceramic models will have 4mm magnets instead of 3mm
and aparently, the higher dc models with 44 and 45 awg wire have shorter bobbins

This is one thing that has always made me wonder: Duncans are labeled on the underside of the pickup, why not engrave or at least label the BKPs in a way?

I asked that on here before. Can't understand why they don't engrave or sticker the actual model type.

+1 guys. I'd love to have an ID of the pickup, date of manufacture, and maybe even the person who worked on the pickup's initials.

At least the person who made it will never be revealed I believe, simply for the reason that the ones Tim made would skyrocket in ebay price although the other winders are just as good. People would pay more for mojo basecally.

I do support at least a sticker for ID and maybe date (year would suffice imho) though.

The way I feel about it is that yes, the ones Tim made would probably go for more than the other ones, but at least you would know he made them. Without the initials of the maker on them, every pickup resold  would claim to be wound by Tim and all would be overpriced, not just some.

This is all without any truth that Tim does indeed wind the best pickup at BKP. For all I know, he could be the worst!

No one needs to know who did the PU and as Kiichi pointed out it wouldn't be very productive :P
I'd just like to be able to identify a pickup without having to dismantle it beforehand

I too am in favour of that - often I have had no less than 6 pickups out on my bench and keeping tabs on what is what is trickier than you'd think.
A simple two or three letter sticker would alleviate that - and maybe a special "custom" sticker should anything be off the standard range.

This happens with Seymour Duncan pickups that have 'MJ' somewhere on them after Mariacella (sp?) who works there and is seen as some sort of guru by some people.

BKPs tend to keep their price 2nd hand anyway so for some to go up would be even worse  :lol:
