Well guys, am literally selling stuff I never use and electronic stuff thats no good in UK to come back for my terminally ill dad.
Not anymore but what I did.
Started as an apprentice electrician.
Then worked for family business for abit (garage, doing mechanic work as was brought up with spanner in hand lol).
Then got bitten by Diving bug. Became an Instructor, worked round the world (think Ski Bum, no money to be made but great time, beaches, weather babes etc., so many stories lol, some to make ya hair curl :)). Then went to Commercial Diving.
Commercial Diving became scarce so, with electrical and mechanical quals. got into R.O.V.'s (Remotely Operated Vehicle).
Did that for 13 years all over world. Pretty much always on boats (not rigs) of small to gigantic.
Went from tech. to Supervisor to Superintendant.
Was making $6,000 a month after tax!
But how did I make this?
Working a minimum of 120 hours a week, (my "awake" record was 64 hours straight when there was a problem with the well and I had a skeleton crew) in a hostile enviroment. No going home at night to relax, no alcohol to relax you, no "nights out" etc. etc.
Basically got to point were doctor told me to quit or my blood pressure would kill me!
So, here I am, actually broke but selling off stuff for move back home. Trying to buy what instruments I can before move as they are cheaper here.
I will lose my greencard.
Owe boatloads on my cars (mine and hers) etc.
So, yeah, was doing pretty well but Family and Health come first.
I just have ALWAYS made pretty good purchases so try to lose little money if any. Except the cars here. My house has no garage so did'nt wanna buy used as really could'nt work on them. So buying new (which is always a nutso idea due to depreciation) had to be done. Oh well.
Anyways, go work offshore guys. It will most likely break ya after several years and is NOT exactly fun BUT it does pay well.
Also, UK DID have a legal loophole to get 100% tax back (with requirements) when I worked Offshore there.
