Does building a SLO Clone on your own come cheaper than buying one? I never had the chance to play one, I always just saw the huge pricetag on those...

I have 1 of Toe-Knees SLO clones and it's an awesome Rock/Metal amp! It easilly keeps up with, and in some ways betters, my Splawn Quick Rod, which cost me alot more!  :shock:

Price wise I know Toe-Knee builds them so that they can vary depending on the quality of the components you want in them, but they usually come in a hell of a lot cheaper than the £3k - £3.5k the new 1s go for :lol:

Selling lots of gear, enquire within!......

I can certainly build you an amp. I'd rather not do a straight up clone but I would happily do you something based around the circuit with a few tweaks to suit your needs more. PM me if you want to discuss it more.

Yeah well I'm not sure why I felt that way, but honestly it was way too much for me. I'll buy the amp as soon as possible, as I've been wanting it ever since I tried it out for the first time, plus the cleans are really amazing. Maybe it will need some time to get fully used to it, or rather the bone crushing distortion it delivers.

And Toe-Knee, that first clip is amazing, reminds me a bit of Lamb of God. You made that amp yourself?  :o

Are you buying the 5150 iii then?  Looks like a great choice, even more so for the money. I right fancy one. I also like the idea of a footwitchable fx loop, why dont more amp companies do that?!  I've seen lots of great guitarists have made the switch from other amp companies and even the ones who used older 5150's switched to the new model to which shows you how good it is.

You seem to try out a lot of gear.....have you ever played through an orange rockerverb?  I was wondering how the hi gain channels compares to that. I imagine they sound similar when you max out the gain although I imagine the orange distortion channel might be more versatile.....from Zeppelin and AC/DC to Down and Slipknot. Still I dislike the cleans on the orange more and more as time goes its built like a tank and mega reliable.

I know EVH based the 5150's on Soldano SLO's which is strange as Mike Soldano says his favourite amp company i Orange and whilst I appreciate lots of amp brands if you put a gun to my head id definitely go with Orange, Peavey of Soldano.

@Toe-Knee: Will pm you ;)

@Jimmy: I find myself visiting my local music store quite often, it's pretty nearby and has a great collection of stuff. I only played a Thunderverb so far and wrote a review: https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=28606.0

I like the Orange Distortion a lot, although I'd rather say it has a very british Marshall like more Overdrive character than the American in your face Distortion, however I always felt the need to use an OD Pedal like a Tubescreamer in front of it to tighten things up. But Orange certainly rules, my Micro Terror is the perfect solution now that my Valveking died.

I'm pretty much the straight forward, one clean and one distorion channel guy. I'm planning on getting a Carl Martin Octaswitch to manage all my pedals in front of the amp as I usually use a Tubescreamer with a Noisegate for the Dirty channel and delay and reverb for the cleans and although the EVH 5150 III 50 Watt is amazing it still has one channel too much for my taste, so the Octaswitch won't work the way I'd want it to. That being said, Toe-Knee might have the perfect solution for me :P

I can also do a nice little looper too with an insert for each channel that also changes the channel on the amp at the same time as bringing in the pedals for the required channel.
