Maintenance rocks!
« on: December 18, 2012, 01:02:57 PM »
Cheers guys,

yesterday I went "shopping" and treated myself with some copper wire. I wanted to redo the wiring of my Strat for ages and took the time to put my workhorse back into good shape again.

So I completely rewired everything, cleaned the fretboard and other parts, took care of the by now rusted bridge saddles as good as I could, restrung it and played the thing until I felt the new strings settled down enough for the tension. Left it overnight in it's case and set the intonation just a few minutes ago.

I've fallen in love with it once again and more than ever before. No hum whatsoever anymore and the Jensen Cap together with the 500k CTS Pots does wonders. I'm not even talking about the readjusted height of my Holydiver. It has turned the pickup into a completely new beast, with a strong, yet not overbearing midrange, sweet but articulate highs and a tight low end. I always felt that the guitar was missing something and after switching from a Duesenberg Crunchbucker to a Duncan Jeff Beck and finally the Holydiver the height was the issue all the time.

Now I can play everything from Blues to Rock to Death Metal.  :band1:

There are some things left to do, like getting a Tremol-No, new Bridge Saddles, a new Scratchplate and maybe changing the Pots to BKP Audio Taper 550s, however by now it has become the guitar I've always dreamt of!

Only thing I'm not entirely sure about are the Slowhands, they are a bit too bassy for my taste, but I use them for the clean channel anyway and messing with the pickup height might change my perception.

Cheers!
