Northern bass tonewood???
« on: December 20, 2012, 10:30:29 PM »
I came across a guy selling bodies on ebay and he says theyre made of the above wood. I tried googling it with little joy. Is it just basswood?

Hard to say!  Looking at the neck pocket it's a pale colour and kind of bland looking, so maybe it is basswood.  Not sure about the "Northern" bit though.

Could be Canadian basswood, like Godin uses in some of their guitars like the Godin Session.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Northern basswood is this, I think - it is basswood, nevertheless.

yeah, quite often americans like to state its american in the name.   So I have heard it called North American Basswood a few times - would imagine this is just a varitation on that.   It is a basswood from North America

nothing like spanish cedar

That reminds me, when Ibanez first introduced the Satriani signature models I seem to recall them making a big fuss about the JS1 being American Basswood as opposed to the, er, regular basswood used for other models.
