Another P/U Recomendation -PRS

So what's a good upgrade for a 2012 PRS Custom 24 with 59/09's? Something with a little more output and thighter. The 59/09's have decient output but not enough IMO.

I would say Abraxas is on the edge between vintage and modern. A kind of hotrodded Mule.
Maybe you can tell us what styles you play and/or what sound your looking for, and add perhaps some guitarplayers sounds you like, as a reference for us.

Well my forte is rock and metal but I love all types of music. 311 guitarist Tim Mahoney is one of my biggest influences. I lived my teen years in the early 90's and loved bands like Metallica, Megsdeth, Pantera ect. I also loved 90's grunge like Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Foo Fighters and Soundgarden. I also like classics like David Gilmour, SRV. The output of the 59/09 isn't my biggest concern, I just wanna tighten things up a bit. I'm a huge Seymour Duncan JB fan but I love everything I'm reading about BKP's and the fact you have options like brushed nickel ect. I'm really excited to convert to BKP's over Duncan's.

In that case look at the Holy Diver (quite middy, rounder topend, superb solotones and closest to a JB, but different sounding) or the Nailbomb (slightly deeper lowend, more agressive uppermids, a bit brigther then the HD, also a bit more fizz in the topend, more 90's metal). Both clean up and split fine

General opinion of BK JB types seems to be bright guitar = Holy Diver, dark guitar = Rebel Yell. RY is great for rock and also will cater for SRV/Gilmour-ish tones if you back the volume and gain off. I really like the JB but to me it sounds awful on anything but full volume.

I don't think an Abraxas will have trouble going heavy, but I think a Rebel yell would be a good upgrade modern-wise.

But do not discount the vintage throwback in the RYs modern sound. To me (and the height I have it in) it is like a modern take a classic rock sound. The wonderfull thing about the RY is the extreme height sensitivity.
I can have it sound very modern or very old school and anything in between while always retaining a very tight bottom end and great musically screaming and lively upper mids that define the RY.

Still have not yet encountered a PU as versatile as the RY.

if you're only after more tightness and edge, the vhII will deliver it without going full modern
bet it would sound absolutely great in a custom 24

but if you want the 311 thing, guess the holy diver might be your guy
maybe the nailbomb or rebel yell

in fact, I've never heard a BKP loaded PRS that didn't sound amazing, anyway

Thanks fellas, at this point it's a cr@pshoot for me because I just have no way of hearing each pickup. All the sound clips I've heard online sound very much alike. I can't imagine any of the suggested pickups would sound bad. Any suggestions where to buy them at, or is talking about that a no-no here?

Are mids and a round(er) topend important: Holy Diver
More agressive sound, deeper bass, strong uppermids, more topend sizzle: Nailbomb

Hot PAF-tones, open and punchy, balanced, good bass: VHII
Hotter PAF-tones with more mids and output: Abraxas.

You can't go wrong with the Diver I think.
Mind you that scatterwound pickups are sensitive for height, so you will have to fiddle to find the sweet spots.

I have a PRS SE Custom 24 that I use in a Rock covers band that also does other material too. I have a Holydiver in the bridge and an Emerald in the neck and with a shadow of a doubt, it's the most incredible pickup configuration I've ever used. It's incredibly versatile as a combination and I use it for the vast majority of our set. To be honest, I could use it for the lot if I needed to but I use my Jackson for some of the set just to try to justify what I spent on it! A Holydiver/Emerald set sounds ideal for what you're looking for. Here's the reviews I wrote for each of them. The review of the Holydiver was done when I originally had it in my Jackson but if anything, it's even better in the PRS:
