Which amp(hopefully my last amp question)???

Ok, so I know I made an amp poll before about a plexi, but I recently decided that was just overkill for my situation. Anyway, I think I've narrowed it down to two. Don't want to spend over 1,000 USD. I play alot of hard rock, classic rock, and blues, a tad of metal but a good clean would be fantastic to have. I'm open to suggestions. I have played both, but I did not play enough of either to really get a good indication of which I would choose. I like the tube aspects of the DSL and the versatility of the Vox. Again, open to all suggestion in price limit.

ENGL, great sound. Thunder sounds like your best bet.
Or even a peazy if ENGL is hard to find.

DSL401 have serious reliability problems. It runs hot very quickly and it's stop working. (no sound)

A tip is to add a 2" PC fan on the back.

I wanted to stay away from imports, but what the hell. Can the thunder get a good blues-inspired rock tone to malcom young tone? And what about the cleans?

I wanted to stay away from imports, but what the hell, I guess I could go through rock-solid amps. Can the thunder get a good blues-inspired rock tone to malcom young tone? And what about the cleans?

^i haven't tried the thunder, but going by the other engls i've tried, yes.

Still, though, they're kind of modern-sounding amps (although i hear the thunder is a little more vintage-voiced)- if you ONLY want more vintage influenced sounds, i'd probably pick another kind of amp...

EDIT: isn't a marshall an import? or do you mean ordering from abroad? if you do, you can get engls from www.rocksolidamps.com in the states.

^ Yeah I believe I posted that above :). I hardly play any modern music. Mostly older hard rock and classic rock like Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and Dio type souds.
Sorry about double post.

I think the ENGL Screamer or Classic might suit your sound more. Really nice cleans etc

If you are in the US you got so many more options .

In the UK for example Mesa Boogie is not an option.

If i was in the US i would consider a Mesa F30/F50, or a Rivera Clubster or similar. A Mesa F50 will run you 1100$ IIRC whereas it would cost you 2100$ in the UK. So forget Marshalls and Vox, and go for a US made amp if you are in the US.

I don't know about the Vox amp, but if you're spending that kinda money I'd be tempted to look at a second hand 5150.

I'd also look at home-grown amps rather than British ones as much of the price will be import duty. Marshall's are so expensive in the US - its nearly as cheap to buy a JCM800 based Splawn amp as it is to buy a reissue JCM800.

I'd dismiss the VOX because, although versatile, a good full-valve amp will blow it away and you should be able to find something nice for $1000 in the USA. The AC30CC and AC15CC could be nice although they might be a bit too vintage sounding for you.

To save money I'd definitely try and find a USA amp that suits you because there's alot of nice stuff built in the USA. The 2nd hand 5150 would be good. Reverend amps aren't made anymore but you should be able to still find them new. High-quality amps for little money, now even more discounted. The Mesa and Rivera stuff should work well for your purposes too.
