Painkiller+Trilogy Suite combination question
« on: December 26, 2012, 08:43:25 PM »
Hi all,

I just finished researching the various BKPs available and have come to the conclusion that I should get:

A calibrated set of Painkiller humbuckers (conductor - 4) and Trilogy Suite single coil (middle position, flat profile for the magnets, RWRP polarity without the zinc plated steel base)

They're going into an Ibanez RG1570 which has:
Neck Material : 5pc Maple/ Walnut
Body              : Basswood body
Frets              : Jumbo frets
Fingerboard   : Rosewood

I'm glad to see that Tim has already recommended the Painkiller and Trilogy Suite combination in this thread:
https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=21868 but I'd like to confirm that this is a suitable combination for a basswood body/rosewood neck guitar.

Also, the current pickup configuration is H-S-H with a 5 way switch (positions 2 and 4 split the humbuckers), but I plan on getting a push-pull tone pot so that I can split both humbuckers to single coils, and the 5 way switch to become:
position 1 - single coil bridge
position 2 - single coil bridge+middle
position 3 - single coil middle
position 4 - single coil middle+neck
position 5 - single coil neck

Again, wil the Painkiller and Trilogy Suite match as single coils?

I'd like to run it by you guys to make sure that I'm not getting something that is conflicting... I'm more of a clean player (Gibson 335) who is venturing into high-gain (Ibanez RG1570).

Thanks!

Bump... anyone?

I just want reassurance that I'm not making a mistake in combining the wrong pickups with the wrong types of wood before spending £300.00...

Thanks!

Detuning or not? Painkiller has a quite bright topend, but if you're guitar has a medium to dark natural voice, they could work. TS's work with a Painkiller.

Thank you Telerocker,

I wasn't planning on detuning. I would say that the guitar is darker than my other ones, but not with absolute certainty. Comparing unplugged, it's subtle--comparing plugged in, it's darker, but probably mainly of the mudiness of the stock pickups...

You can always fiddle with the height to tame the pickups topend. Or/and use others pots and capacitors.
