is that a US guitar?  the maple top isn't a veneer, and it's got the R logo.  or were the Czech ones like that?

That is very very slick indeed. An excellent way to start the year. Are all the bits original?

Apparently (according to an email from BC Rich to the previous owner) it's an "Artist Series" model, a prototype made in 2008 for the Japanese market but which never went into production.  There were only two made.

They don't say where it was actually made (presumably Japan or Korea), but it's pretty high-spec.  The top may not be bookmatched but it's a solid half inch of figured maple (no veneers!), the board is ebony, the pickups are Duncans, it has the "R" logo (which I always wanted!)

On the other hand, some of the workmanship is so-so.... wonky tuners, neck pickup slightly out of line, the inlays aren't perfectly level with the board.  Still trying to get to grips with the electronics but they all seem to work (although their usefulness is questionable....)

The big selling points for me were that it's pretty close to the original '70s/'80s look, the neck is nice and chunky and it's not too heavy (8lbs dead).  And that "R" logo!  It's as close as I'm going to get to a US model at a reasonable price.

8lbs is about as far as I'll go!  It's actually a bit neck-heavy, so the extra little bit of weight in the body is probably no bad thing.

I strongly suspect the two Tele-style knobs aren't.  Or maybe they are original and the volume knob isn't.  Anyway, I'm going to try to get a set of the '70s-style knobs (probably from Neal Moser Guitars).

Oh you dog - I love Mockingbirds - but it has to have the R logo
Nice one!

I think you'll have to bring it over for a "health check" sometime.

I'm good about "normal" New Year Resolution things, like diet and exercise.  Honestly.  Guitars are now my only real weakness.

That's quite likely!  The binding at the end of the fretboard is loose, some of the frets feel a bit sharp and I'd like to get the inlays levelled.  All stuff I'm scared of doing myself!

Of course it may well be BKP'd in due course as well.  I've no idea which specific models the Duncans are, but they don't sound amazing.  Neck pickup is a bit bright (but that may be partly down to the weird preamp thingy and the varitone)
