Do all bkp humbuckers have the same orientation back plate?

I'm just checking because my new covered mule set neck and bridge look identical. To get the pole pieces in the same place (on the outside on both pups) as the ones that came in my les paul I assume i just fit them so the cable come out of the bottom of the bridge and the cable come from the top of the neck. Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, lol.

That is indeed the standard orientation of (almost) all humbucker sets on the market. I believe it comes from the fact that the channel rout for the wiring harness in a Les Paul runs diagonally through the body from the pots compartment to the toggle switch compartment so it is simply more convenient that the wire of the neck pickup comes out on top and the wire of the bridge pickup comes out at the bottom. So what you have observed is absolutely normal.

Of course, for guitars having the switch and pots in the same control compartment it would not be an issue.

To identify the bridge and neck models (assuming they don't have the tags anymore) simply measure the DC resistance. The one with the higher resistance is the bridge model.

Cheers. Now I have actually pulled the old pups out I can see what you mean. I just thought I'd ask before cutting the strings off then discovering something was wrong. I guess I didn't notice with my warpigs because they have two sets of pole pieces.
