New Cab Day! Custom roadkill 2x12
« on: January 18, 2013, 04:40:05 PM »
Hey guys this has been in the works for quite some time.

Its a little taller than your average 2x12 and also fairly deep. I wasn't quite sure what colour piping to go for but in the end I chose silver and i'm pretty glad that I did as it blends really well.

I haven't had too much playtime on it so far but it's a definite improvement over the peavey 2x12 that I had that was too bass heavy for my liking.

I discussed what I like/dislike about cabs that I've tried with Tom and we ended up settling on this.

The low end is very clean and precise with no excess woofiness (this was exactly what I was looking for!) and the midrange is very open and detailed and the highs bloom amazingly without getting harsh or fizzy.

The speakers are far from broken in as they've had about an hours playtime in total but I'm really impressed so far.

The eminence rep told me that the Legend V128 were like a tighter & punchier v30 but not as grating in the midrange and without the flabby lows. So far I would say he was absolutely spot on. However we will see if that changes as they break in.

I'll get the exact dimensions etc posted up later as well as a better pic. For now I'm going to crank my amp up and get a start on breaking this in!

Looks great mate!

I'd be interested to see how they sound with my Splawn the next time we meet up.

The dimensions are
690 w x 490 h x 340 d

Before settling on these I went out and did tried a lot of cabs to see what I liked and what I didn't like. In general I found that shorter and narrower cabs sounded a bit too boxy whilst short and deep ones were far too boomy in the lows hence the slightly taller dimensions on this one.

Another thing that came into consideration was the fact that I plan on building a few amps that are going to be pretty gigantic so I had to also be able to accommodate fitting those on top of it too without fudging the sound up.

Looks great! And yes, new speakers take some time to break in.
