Which BKP? Caparison Dellinger + Framus Cobra Drop C#
« on: January 20, 2013, 10:46:23 PM »
Hi guys, new to this forum, this is my first post so firstly hello to you all  :)

Im getting my Caparison Dellinger II setup and im thinking of putting in some BKPs at the same time as the stock pickups arent cutting it. My Caparison is bolt on maple neck, maple center body with mahogany wings and im running it into a Framus Cobra. Im after a clear tight almost nasally guitar tone without being too bright. My Cobra is already a very dry tight pissed off amp so i dont really know which direction to go with this. Heres the sort of tone im after:

Any help appreciated

Cheers guys!

hey, brother
as I answered you on facebook, my favorites with the cobra were the holy diver and miracle man

but for that lamb of god era, I'd pick the ceramic nailbomb
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

just notice that their nasal saturated tone comes mostly from the mesa mark amps
it's a pretty midrangy, dense, focused and bidimensional tone
not a huge, dry, but deep and open 3D tone like the cobra

Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

Hey dude, i figured it might be you, sorry for all the repetitive questions! Yeah im aware alot of LOGs tone is down to their mark iv's, i dont want to immitate their tone, just that general tightness and grind, hopefully i can get close.

As for the nailbomb, the more i read about it the more it sounds like the pickup im looking for. Do you think the nailbomb will be tight enough? Im a member over on sevenstring.org and a few people speculate its not tight enough.

Would you suggest getting the nailbomb neck too?

Thing about tightness is that is is all relative.

Generally BKPs are tighter than the usual suspect brands. My crawler, by rather a lot the loosest of the BKP bunch, is still at least medium tight when compared to some of the other stuff out there.
The Crawlers voicing combined with my gear (Orange amp) will never get a truely great tighet modern metal sound, suprise suprise, but still.
All in all alnico BKPs are tigher than most of the other ceramics...now donīt get me started on BKP ceramics.
It is just that general clarity of BKPs, which is just so bloody amazing once you realize what you are playing now...whole nother world opens up.

For tightness you got the Amp, the cab, the PUs and the pedal chain (and of course the string gauge, etc.), which all make a huge impact. A booster or OD goes suuuuch a long way when it comes to tightnes (god I love my Super Hard On clone).

What I am trying to say is: Both the A-bomb and the C-bomb will be tight enough for most people, especially those who are used to those other PUs. It may take an OD (which is rarely a  bad thing for distorted sounds on a valve amp) or a different EQ, but that is basecally standart when switching between guitars or PUs anyway.

So a C-bomb should deffinetly get you what you need: Growl and enough tighness.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid
