I've ordered a new Warmoth pickguard for the new arrangement - their pickguards are surprisingly cheap.

They are, and they have a really good choice of pickup configurations too, on some models anyway.

Shame the shipping is so expensive!

I agree, but nevertheless the new pickguard cost me 33quid or so including shipping. I still say thats a deal. Of course, it completely depends on if I will get stung for duty.

warmoth pickguard is here after 3.5 weeks. no duty needed to be paid  :D

still waiting on the pickup, I expect it will come next week.

Result on the Warmoth delivery!

The Creamery aren't too quck are they, but I assume it was a custom build from scratch?

I think it was a custom build from scratch indeed, and to be fair they did warn we there would be a 2 week lead time. If it arrives early next week, it will be more or less as they promised, accounting for postage.

the pickup arrived today, pretty much exactly a month after I ordered it. now, that is quite a delay, but the creamery explained the delay was due to them moving into a new workshop, and they also put a friendly note in with the pickup. i was in no special rush for the pickup, so i do feel like forgiving the delay.

the pickup itself is quite nicely made, a similar standard to the mini-humbuckers i've had from Lollar - professionally done, but with a few small signs of being handmade. i have a good feeling at the moment it will sound good, but the proof is in the listening!

I agree with you re forgiving the delay, I buy so much stuff by mail order that I pretty much order and forget until it turns up.  I don't mind a slight delay unless I think it's due to sheer laziness and ineffficiency!

Off topic, I didn't realise you have multiple Lollar minis.  Have you got both the mini-humbucker and Firebird variations?  I'd be interested to know how they compare.

I do have both variations - but its quite hard to compare them(!) because the Firebird one is in the bridge of a WezV Firebird I, and the Mini-HB one is in the neck of my Adrian Smith-alike Agile Les Paul.

I liked them both anyway, Jason was a pleasure to deal with and I would certainly order from him again if the exchange rate was advantageous.

Yes, Mr Lollar was good to deal with.  I have the Firebird pickup in a Tele, but I often think about changing the pickups in that one and transplanting the Firebird elsewhere.... it would be really cool in the neck position of my (24 fret) SG-X, but I'm not sure it would be a sensible idea to take the router to that guitar!

I've dealt with this guy, he's in Spain - got his P90 in my SG junior, very nice stuff.  He does Jazzmaster pickups.

So the creamery jazzmaster neck sounds great. I've never tried a real jazzmaster pickup before, but it sounds like a strat pickup with a bold jazzy sounding low end. With a heavy pick and flatwound strings it would be great for jazz, a jazz master if you will.

I need to experiment more with it, but it works perfectly with the vh2 in the bridge position. In particular the inbetween position give a killer clean tone.

Sadly, and what I already knew would happen, is that the single pickup raunchiness this guitar had with the vh2 alone is now gone. The vh2 is still very good of course, but adding a neck pickup has taken some of the liveliness away. On the other hand, I now have a couple of extra clean tones and a fender neck violin lead tone.

Do you mean the tone of the VHII has literally changed (due to magnetic string pull, presumably?)  or that your perception of the tone has changed because you now have a neck pickup to compare it to?  :?

It could indeed be entirely perception. Guitar definitely seems a bit less lively though. Perhaps a combination of string pull and a bit more stuff in the signal path.
