NAMM!!!
« on: January 25, 2013, 02:28:12 AM »
I was offended to see a lack of a NAMM post so I thought I would start one, so far I really want:

ENGL Ironball (20 watt take on a Fireball/Powerball in mini-recto/toaster style housing)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPbAVYvM3M8

Jackson 7 string flying V (even if it is a Trivium signature model of which I have heavy dislike for Trivium)

also seen an Ibanez 9 string for which I really don't see the point.

Getting my Bad Cat Unleash attenuator/reamp device, and thinking about the Marshall SL-5.

I was wondering who'd start a NAMM thread!

Looking at the news on the Music Radar site last night, I haven't seen much to get excited about (yet), but I am pleased to see the PRS Custom 22 making a comeback.  Never understood why they discontinued it in the first place (even though it was fairly obvious it would return eventually)

(Another potential investment there Dave?  )
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I think it's safe to say that when the big NAMM news on the Music Radar website is that Orange have announced a valve tester that it's a pretty slow news month. I had a quick look at the usual sources and so far there's been nothing to even tempt me to part with cash.

Stupid blade switch though!

It's a production guitar @ £3549.  Not sure it's different enough from my existing stuff to be worth picking one up.

I'm in two minds about the blade switch - it's a nice straightforward way to get some extra tones, much less fiddly than rotaries or mini-switches or push-pulls.

On the other hand, I don't really like a blade switch without a scratchplate - you can imagine paint's going to be chipping and flaking away over time.  I know that's only cosmetic, but still.....  :?

^ it might be running through v30s

it sounded pretty good to me (only got as far as the cleans so far though). assuming it is all-tube, i dunno why they didn't do this one instead of the gigmaster (which is hybrid, as far as i'm aware).

Ye it is most likely v30s, no price yet, I just hope it keeps the low end when it's not mic'd up

^ yeah that's the other thing, i was sorta wondering why two el84s. a higher wattage lunchbox-type amp (assuming that's possible in such a small box) would be a better idea. Plus the price needs to be low(ish).

you hear that, engl? we need a 100 watt, 4 channel, versatile all-tube amp head in a small box that weighs 4 grams and which costs £50.

Wouldn't 1 EL34 already be a higher wattage than 2 EL84s?

Although I quite like the look of this amp.

I've also recently heard about the rack version of the Laney Ironheart, which is also 20 watts and looks incredibly cool - dunno whether it's something new or if it's been out for a while and I haven't realised it though.

I don't mind the wattage, as long as a 50 or 100 watt tubeamp sounds good on low volume too. The point is with those lunchbox-sized amps is how much headroom you need. In most cases the clean channel crunches quite fast with humbucker. Personally, I need headroom.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Slight tangent here, but did you guys hear about Chappers and co being told that they came across the pond for nowt? They were supposed to be playing, they set up and everything, got on stage, and then were told "Actually, no, you can't play. Volume levels problem."
