Wouldn't 1 EL34 already be a higher wattage than 2 EL84s?

depends on how the amp is designed, i guess, but probably not. it'd also be single-ended which doesn't really sound the same as push-pull (though whether one single ended el34 would sound closer to EL34s in push-pull than EL84s in PP would, I dunno  ).

I don't mind the wattage, as long as a 50 or 100 watt tubeamp sounds good on low volume too. The point is with those lunchbox-sized amps is how much headroom you need. In most cases the clean channel crunches quite fast with humbucker. Personally, I need headroom.

yeah that was sorta my point about the higher wattage thing, for those high gainers you normally want at least some headroom. :)

Randall Thrasher looks nice, not heard any clips but I believe it's based on the Satan designed by Mike Forton

What do you guys think of the EVH Striped Series? That white model looks incredible, giving me serious GAS.
I think they look pretty neat. I'm GASing for the VHII one.

I do like the look of the white version.  Interesting that they have some "modern" EVH features like the D-Tuna and the Wolfgang-style truss rod adjustment.

The Charvel EVH I used to own had the D-Tuna, though the usual truss rod adjustment. That was  a great guitar, just not right for me. If these new ones are as good they will be very very decent weapons of mass distraction indeed.

Yeah the Thrasher sounds cool- supposedly its the Fortin NATAS, then the SATAN is the tweaked version of that, plus different transformers and choke

Fender have released the Super Sonic as a pawnshop guitar.

I think they look great! But I can resist the GAS.

I had the Squier version in blue sparkle.  It was extremely well made, but sounded absolutely cr@p due to the terrible pickups/electronics and dull-sounding basswood(?) body.

It is basically a really cool design though.  :D

There are 3 news that got my interest:

1. Eventide H5 - Stomp Box that has all the Algorithms from TimeFactor, ModFactor, Space - and can be controlled via bluetooth with iPhone/iPad
2. Friedman SS100 - SteveStevens Sig Amp
3. Marshall SL-5 - great price on this one, too and a very good sounding clean channel, finally.
Tweaker's Paradise - Player's nightmare.

Which Marshall was Slash's model based off? Guessing it's was either a modded JTM or a JCM800

You can't just turn up and gain entry to NAMM and you can't buy anything there anyway.
You have to be a NAMM member , and that means that you have to be within the industry and also pay a lot of money for the privilege too.
That will get you a limited number of passes.

Agreed on noise levels at shows - especially with a full band. It is hard to deal with it all if you are trying to have important sales conversations which is what it is all about if you are exhibiting.
It costs many thousands or tens of thousands of pounds  to exhibit and if you can't do any business because of the deafening volume it is all a waste of time and money.
The noise police have a tough job to do , but they do it for a reason

I have major gas for the EVH red/white and black/yellow. At £484 I'm deffo going to be getting one of them.  I'm also liking the look of the 50w 2x12 5150III combo. It has an attenuator that takes it as low as 1w built in. I think that's exactly what I might be looking for (not hat I NEED one lol).

It's based on the AFD tone, which is modified Plexi with an extra gain stage.  Basically it's a fatter sounding JCM800.
