Raw nickel covers with scratches?
« on: February 02, 2013, 08:39:21 AM »
Hi folks,
Just bought an Abraxas set with raw nickel covers. On opening the box I could see some significant scratching on the bridge pickup. I called bkp and Ben told me that raw nickel does come with scratches. After looking at the pics of the ones on the website which quite clearly do not have scratches I'm feeling a little bit down about my new pickups. I understand that the raw nickel has a grainy non shiny finish and that they will get marked and scratched over time, but new out of the box?
Does anyone else have raw nickel pickups and do they look like the ones on the website or my scratchy ones.
Cheers folks

just going through some previous threads on the forum and it seems there has been a bit of confusion over the covers i wanted. i just seen that there is a brushed nickel option which is what i wanted but i ordered raw nickel.
thats a pisser :(

As I read your first post, even though you said "raw nickel" I was thinking "brushed nickel" because of the picture on the Abraxas product page!

I'm sure you can change them if you're not happy.  When I got my very first set of BKPs years ago the chrome plating on the covers was flawed for some reason - got them changed no problem.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Yeh that's exactly what I thought phil. But hey ho. I did order them with zebra bobbins so if I do get the hump with them I can just remove the covers.

well, raw nickel do get scratched easily
I wouldn't bother, cause your picking would do that in a couple weeks of playing
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat
