Black Dog 8 doing prog metal
« on: February 03, 2013, 11:33:16 AM »
So it looks like the blank page syndrome is starting to clear. i challenged myself to right something that tried to use the full range of the 8 string instead of just focusing on the low end. i think it turned out pretty good.

recorded using amplitube and redwirez IR and a schecter blackjack 8 string with a black dog bridge and riff raff neck.

the lead isn't perfect it was comped togheter quickly to have a lead and give an idea of the dynamic of the song.

i really love the riff at around 0:30, it's a pretty strange harmonized hybrid picked arpeggio, but it all blends so well and really confirms the pace the previous riff sets.

thanks for listening!

That was honestly very good.
That part at :30 really was very nice and I lived its alternations.
I found the riffs on the low strings too "juicy" and loose sounding though and it made the riffs too bassy and boring really because I think that with a tighter sound it would have sounded excellent with a slightly more fitting tone/mix and the higher strings sounded awesome.
Maybe try lowering the gain and adding a tubescreamer/some volume?

Anyway, that was very cool, sounded like a great mix between John Petrucci and Mark Tremonti sort of songwriting.

Loved the solo too.

Awesome stuff, really enjoyed the songs & the 8 string black dog clip, I knew it would be a  good 8 string performer.
