More info on Nailbomb neck pickup?
« on: February 07, 2013, 02:52:35 PM »
I'm curious about this as I kinda like the progressive clip. Does anyone have more info on this particular pickup? I hear loads about the Cold Sweat and VHII neck. How do these compare, and why do they always seem to get more recommendations than the NB neck?

Allot of people choose a neck pickup to deliver softer clean tones and the bridge for their harder edge. I'm guessing two nailbombs in a guitar would limit the sweetness of your clean sound... without having to mess with volumes etc.... I could be wrong.

Also some people like having two different pick-ups in their guitars rather than a set.

I read the Nailbomb-neck is brighter and not that fluid as the CS-neck. Indeed, the CS and VHII are quite popular neckpickups here on the forum.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I have the NB and CS neck pups and i would ahve to say that i prefer the CS neck-it feels more liquidy to me and has a nice smoothness

Nailbomb bridge and Nailbomb neck are two different pickups, as are all calibrated sets in the BKP range. Just in case you were confused about that..

I have a Nailbomb set and I was surprised by the neck PU. The NB are often considered for bridge but not that much for the neck, and while there may be superior neck PU in the BKP line I think a set is a really good solution.

It's not that hot (10K), very clear sounding and articulate, a little brighter than many other PU that I tried. The only downside I found it's (like the bridge) you have to keep it a little further away from the strings to really hear the dynamics of your playing.

it's like a heavily underwound version of the bridge nailbomb
so it's BRIGHT and quite midscooped, but one of the most articulate BKP models
I disagree about it not being "that hot"
I'd say it is very hot and LOUD for a neck pickup, just not compressed
a neck warpig is like 20k and doesn't feel hotter at all, just fatter and more fluid
I could use the neck NB for funk or some sort of power metal soloing, but I wouldn't pick it for smooth and fluid leads (not that it can't do that)
sounds like a heavily boosted and more articulate duncan '59n (and I'm not a fan of that pickup, but it seems to be the world's top seller among neck humbuckers)
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

@Eric: How would you compare the NB neck vs RR neck and Mule neck ?
Have: Crawlers, BGF 50/52s, Mules, ABomb, RiffRaff
Had : Slowhands (n&m), Trilogy (b)

What kind of Power Metal bands would you say the Nailbomb neck is closest too?
