Wiring ABRAXAS humbuckers in Parallel ?
« on: February 10, 2013, 04:04:12 AM »
Hey guys bought a set of ABRAXAS hums was wondering if anyone has ever wired these up in Parallel, the reason I ask is I have almost completed a highend custom build and was thinking about wiring the humbuckers in Parrallel.

I have played strats my whole life but decided to go humbuckers and was wondering if anyone has ever wired these up so that the coils of each humbucker are in parallel instead of series for a clearer more strat like tone.....

I know the Bare Knuckles are very clear and detailed already compared to most, but I thought...hmmm  if they are that good in series how would they sound in parallel.....I used to wire my DiMarzio hums  in parallel for  a more detailed sound and I always prefered the note seperation they produced being wired that way as opposed to series.

I realise they will not be as loud......but the amp and boost covers all that.... thoughts ????

I would just try it out and see for yourself, at the end of the day your tastes may well be totally different to someone else's, that's why I find it best to just try it for myself first.

As you said they won't be as loud but that might well be your preference.

If you do try it, let me know how you got on

Kind Regards

When you wire a pickup in parallel the character of the sound completely changes, so it's difficult to speculate on what the Abraxas, in particular, might sound like.  It's quite an unusual thing to do so I'd be surprised if anyone else has done exactly what you're thinking of, but you might be lucky.

I have a Riff Raff with a series/parallel switch on a single pickup SG, and I like what it does.  It gives a brighter, less bassy, less powerful tone, a bit more single-coil like (although it doesn't really sound like a true single-coil).  So that's cool, but what I also find really interesting is that it responds differently to the volume and tone controls when you switch between series and parallel, which is fun.

If your guitar's a Strat with a five way switch, why not try wiring it so you can have both series and parallel options?

Thanks for the input, and yes I just learned about the series parallel switch option so I will definantly be wiring it up so that both options are at my disposal......
